thoughts on a Sunday night

So the news came on, they announced that Osama Bin Laden is dead. Then President Obama came on and gave a short speech, but I guess he made everyone wait over an hour for the speech. Now my Facebook is full of comments about the event. Some people were annoyed with Obama making America wait, thinking he was trying to pull a power play. Trying to get back at Donald Trump by interrupting the broadcast of his show. Some were quick to state that Obama had nothing to do with it, and that he was taking credit for the whole operation. I don't get political very often because when you do, you open yourself up for attacks and people just get mean and nasty very quickly. But I need to say a few things but not necessarily on Facebook.

-I think it's a good thing that a very bad man was caught and now he cannot hurt people any more.
-President Obama is the Commander in Chief of our military. As such, it was his call to order the operative to go after Bin Laden. I believe he did the best he could to wait until they had enough information, and to do it in such a way to minimize bloodshed. They had a hint of his whereabouts in August.
-Obama's speech in no way took all the credit for what happened. This event has been a long time coming and many people made it possible. It wasn't Obama, it wasn't George W. Bush. It was very many people over many years.
-I believe Obama made sure to recognize the familes of all the people who lost their lives on 9/11 and the families of the military and other organizations who sacrifice so much to provide national security.
-I DO NOT believe Obama was trying to interrupt Donald Trump's tv programming. Speeches like this are a big deal. Careful consideration needs to be made to the wording and inclusion of certain information while not including other information. Plus he is the president and can give his speech whenever he wants.
-If breaking news is interrupting your Sunday night programming and you were planning on watching Donald Trump, I'm sorry, but that is poor taste in tv shows.

easters update

Hi. I had a good Easters. I am the only one at home so I got all the candy to myself. Which is a good and bad thing. Good because easters candy is my most favorite candy of all the holidays, and I get to eat it all myself. Bad because I get to eat it all myself. I just loooove jelly beans and cadbury mini eggs.

Today is my mom and dad's 30th wedding anniversary. Congrats to them!

I'm still in a sugar coma, so I'll do a write up from my trip later. I get to leave in less than two weeks to go to UT for a wedding and I am super excited.

...and one of the best parts of my vacation-meeting up with Jenn and Aaron in DC, I haven't seen them in a long time and I missed them. They are still pretty much the same. We got soggy but it was fun!

Boy do I need a vacation

Can I just say that I am really looking forward to my vacation that is coming up? Seriously. I just need to get out of town and be away from people for awhile. The quagmire that is the Tri-Cities has really been draging on me lately and I need a break. Not having to go to work is exciting too. I can't say I'll miss it. I leave the great state of Washington on Friday to head to the other Washington-DC that is, and I am SO FREAKING EXCITED.

So excited that in preparation for my trip I have made an iPod playlist of songs appropriate to locations I will be visiting. "Good Morning, Baltimore" from Hairspray for Baltimore, "Philadelphia Freedom" by Elton John and the Rocky song for Philly, "The Virginia Company" song from Pocahontas for Virginia, and a plethora of patriotic/americana songs just for DC such as "America" by Simon & Garfunkel, "America the Beautiful" by Ray Charles, and I'll probably get some John Phillip Sousa (Stars and Stripes) in there. Also, we are watching movies that will prepare us for our trip. My dad watched "Gettysburg," I also have "The Philadelphia Story," "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington," "A More Perfect Union" and "National Treasure" on that list. I'm probably getting carried away but I like to prepare.

Also, General Conference was really good. Like all of it. I felt really recharged after this one. Please go back and read/listen to them because not only are they good, but they are scripture. So there.

"I think there were a lot of boys that took prophetic counsel to heart today. I am going to have to call you tomorrow."

(If you missed out-President Monson came down hard on the young men who are single and not doing anything about it. I heard he almost yelled at them to get married.)

I'm sorry Bub, but this is too funny. I am dying of laughter right now and just dad that I am not there to witness all this going down. Classic.

making plans

Summer. It's coming soon. I'm so excited. I love it. I also love making plans. (You have six smiles, one when you're making plans...Win a Date with Tad Hamilton anyone?) So these two things together equal a very happy meagan. This year is shaping up quite nicely. So far:

April 16th-23rd Vacation of Americana with the fam. Pops is taking mom, G, and Me back East. Stops include Baltimore, Maryland; Gettysburg, Pennsylvania; Philladelphia, Pennsylvania; Washinton, DC; and Williamsburg, Virginia. I am so pumped. My goals-see the ace of cakes bakery, eat a philly steak and cheese sandwich/run up the rocky steps in Philly, see the Giant Panda in the national zoo, go to literally everything in DC, find Josh and Naomi, and take lots of pictures. Most excitingly, Jenn, Aaron and Donna Lee are probs going to meet up with me in DC!!!!! I can't wait. It's been almost two years since I've seen Jenn, and the fact that we are meeting in such a random cool place-it's almost like Sleepless in Seattle where they meet on top of the Empire State Building.

May 6th-10th Another Pilgrimage to Mecca. Jenny and Brent are getting married and I am going to be there. I love them both and am so happy for them. They also promised a dance party for the reception...Also there will be a pilgrimage within a pilgrimage to Moab/Arches National Park. One of my favorite places on earth. I will also get to see my favorite people. My bro Stephen will be there the same weekend for a different wedding. With Jillian and Gretchen in UT already, that makes all the Carr kids together at the same time. IT WILL BE EPIC. Also I will see all my old peeps, roommates Marissa, Monica, Jules, Jenna, etc, Andy, Rachelle, Audrey, Jason, Eric, Leland, Kara, Amy, too many; plus Kira, Austin and Baby Miller Lite if he's not moved to WA by then and living across the yard from me, and Kams if he is still there. I don't know if anyone from here is going with me but I do just fine on 9 1/2 hour road trips by myself.

June 3rd-Fantasy in Portland. Marlena and I are going to see Adele in concert. She is amazing, I love her new cd, and she is great live. Marlena has family in OR so we can stay there, do some shopping. Going to be great!

June 26th-28th Oregon Coast Getaway with the Dablings. My bestie Nikita's family is going to the Oregon Coast. She can't drive down with them. So they want me to come with her. And I get to hang with the crazy Dabling family? Of course I'm in! (I don't know if I am doing this yet, I have to work sometime...)

August 26thI -may-pass-out-from-excitement-beforehand-and-during Trip. Josh. Groban. 12th. Row. I may touch him. My mom, Jillian, and me. Also in Portland, OR. (Holy cow, all the cool stuff is going down in Oregon this summer!) My mom and I are already giddy with excitement we have to remind ourselves that we have 5 1/2 months to go. Sometimes we just yell "JOSHGROBAN12thROW!" to each other. Ahhhhhh!

Please note-I am not writing this to brag. That is far from my intent. I am blessed with a little bit of a disposable income and parents that still take me to things. I am just really excited about life and the awesome things that are heading my way.-Meagan

Stefon

This is my new favorite thing. Bill Hader on SNL does a gay character called Stefon, he is the Metro correspondent on the WeekendUpdate segment and gives tips on the hot places to go, except his hints aren't that great. I love it. I love how Bill (who can do one of the lowest voices on SNL) does this very feminine gay voice, and has all the mannerisms. I also love how he breaks (stops his lines because he is laughing so hard) because he thinks he himself is so funny. My favorite jokes are the ones that are about midgets. They might be offensive to some people. But I found all the Stefon segments today and I laughed so hard.
