New Year new goals

Hello there, I realize that the new year is already 27 days old but I have made some goals that I thought I'd post here-maybe I'll be more likely to do them?

1. have a budget and stick to it-my new plan is to have all "spending" money in cash in a monthly allotment, that way once I spend it, it's done

2. read the BOM by the end of the semester-this is a ward challenge, so far I'm really behind

3. figure out what I'm doing in life-Ha ha ha...that's hilarious

4. be better at making friends

5. have meaningful prayer and scripture study

6. read at least 1 non-fiction book for every 3 fiction

Also, I was worried about the new years glasses where they make the zeroes the holes for the eyes because how will they make 2010 work? But they cheated and made the one a balloon letter and made it hollow, so that works.

James Morrison and Adele concert-Jan. 23, 2009

I went to this concert a year ago but forgot to write about it in my blog. This is mostly just for me to remember the events that went down that day.

Friday, Janurary 23rd was an awesome day in my life. I spent the day waiting in anticipation for what was to come in the evening. I got ready for the concert about 3:45 because I couldn't wait any longer. Marissa got home from Women's Chorus about 4:15 and we helped each other decide on wardrobe. (I seriously don't know how to dress myself sometimes when I live at home and don't have roommates.) I was very anxious to get out the door because I wanted to make sure we did everything on time. First, we had to stop at 7-11 to fill up on gas. While Marissa was pulling in there was a green kia pulling out of a parking stall so Marissa stopped to let them back out. But then she kept going. I started honking my imaginary horn and yelled "Marissa!" Marissa pounded the horn in time and the idiot stopped in time. My heart was pounding because if there had been an accident there it would have been a sucky time and I would have felt bad about going to the concert. Exciting start to the night. Then we left P-town the center street way because I cannot handle University Parkway at all. And we had the iPod going with Adele.

The first stop of the night was the Cheesecake Factory at Fashion Place Mall. As expected, it was crowded and the wait would be 50 minutes. There were other tables available that were first come first serve. There was a lot of eyeing down from other couples but we eventually got a table faster than we would have if we had waited for the buzzer. I was so excited to eat at Cheesecake Factory because everything is amazing. You seriously can't go wrong. I ordered farfalle pasta that had carmelized onions and mushrooms. The sauce was heavenly. Marissa got a turkey burger. We both ordered cheesecake, of course! I got white chocolate raspberry and Marissa got Godiva chocolate. I was very pleased with my selection. (This description of food might sound weird but it was amazing.) During dinner a creepy fog descended around the restaurant making the night look ominous. Alan was our fantastic waiter and I even left him my phone number because Marissa's cousin Jared inspired me to do it. (I had heard stories about him.) Nothing came from it though.

The location of the concert was the Murray City Theater which was only a mile or two up the road. The venue was pretty small so we had to find random parking. Marissa ended up parking us in between the bingo parlor and a warhouse next to a dumpster. This location was made even sketchier by the fog. By now my enthusiasm was uncontainable. I was running to the concert held up only by crosswalks.

(now we come to what I can remember from one year ago...)
We got inside to discover an already packed house. The whole crowd was standing. I saw that there was a lower part closer to the stage and further back was higher with a small railing in front. My goal was to get to the front of the railing area, but people were already saving spots. I tried to weave my way in but I couldn't get to the front-this would lead to a somewhat frustrating problem. Marissa and I hung out until James Morrison came on!

James was the original reason I wanted to go to the concert. I discovered him the October before and greatly enjoyed his music. When I found out that he was coming to Utah I freaked out. I bought tickets right away. By now I don't remember much of what James said but I do remember that he was fantastic live. It was so fun to have the music blasting in my face and be able to sing along. A lot of people started out the evening not knowing who James was but they became fans during the night. He only had his guitar, a keyboardist, and drums but the music was still great. It was also fun to hear his british accent when he spoke. I remember that one guy behind us while listening to a song said "this would be great music to float in a canoe to." I thought it was kind of a weird statement but totally true. James Morrison!

James has a great soulful voice and his songs are so upbeat and fun to listen to. He is a great musician and even better to listen to live. I can't believe I was able to see him live in concert, and that close.

My only complaint was that it was really hard for me to see. I am short, people are taller, and get in the way. I had a window but sometimes people would get in the way. A rumor went around that David Archuletta was there, I tried to find him and thought I saw his mohawk, but I'm still not sure it was him. During the intermission Marissa and I got really bored so we had a photoshoot!

Then Adele and her band came on. She was so cute! Adele was kind of bashful and embarassed that we were so excited to see her. She was surprised that she had such a large fan base in SLC. Adele had a drummer, a guitarist, and two keyboardists. I can't believe how great she was to listen  to live. She even played the guitar for herself on a couple of songs. Her british accent was so cute. While I was watching Adele there was an old man who would bob back and forth during the songs. It was frustrating that he would get in the way-I wanted to see! Anyway, I feel cool that I saw Adele because she won a Grammy a few weeks later for best new female artist. She sang all but one of her songs from her cd.

As Marissa and I were walking out  we saw Adele's band members taking pictures. Then we saw her tour bus and people were hanging out to see if they could meet her. We hung out for a little while but it was taking a long time so we decided to leave. But then...as we were walking towards the car we spotted the other tour bus and some people hanging around it. They told us James Morrison was inside and that his manager went in to see if he could get James to come out. James came out a few minutes later and I got to meet him! He was so nice even though he'd probably been asleep. I had some random girl take pictues of me, Marissa and James. I told him that I loved his music, I had a great time at the concert and thanks for coming to SLC. Meeting James Morrison made my life! I skipped back to the car and we were freaking out that we met someone cool and famous. We drove back to Provo reliving the awesome night and meeting James Morrison!!!!!!

Prepare to be amazed

Ok, so my roommate Rachelle's cousin, Leland, showed me this video on YouTube. It is seriously so cool. This Chinese ballet group did Swan Lake but incorporated acrobatics and gymnastics. The best stuff is in the middle-besides having amazing extension, the female principle at one point does an arabesque ON THE TOP OF THE MALE DANCER'S HEAD. Among other things. Please watch. good day

Many things came to pass today that made my life better
-I was able to drive to work before it snowed (I was right behind someone who spun out yesterday, I almost died, it was very stressful)
-Working today was not as bad as I thought it was going to be
-I got paid today
-My sister got accepted to the Jerusalem Study Abroad program
-I am now CHES certified-the test I spend time and money on last October wasn't for nothing! I can now write letters after my name-(Meagan Carr, CHES)
-The sun came out and it was kind of warm-oh spring! you taunt me..

Elementary, my dear Watson

The fam went to see the new Sherlock Holmes movie during Christmas break. It was excellent. I highly approve of Robert Downey Jr. playing Holmes and Jude Law playing Watson. I was slightly worried it would be inappropirate especially after the kind of previews they showed before the movie but it wasn't bad at all. I wasn't the biggest fan of Rachel McAdams performance but she did well enough. I've read the Sherlock Holmes books and RDJ did a great job portraying him-the fickleness, playing the violin, being brilliant but unreliable, and always one step ahead of everyone else. Jude did great being Watson. In the book he's older and a little more bumbling, but if you have Jude in your movie you don't want him doing that. I liked that he was the only one who could keep up with Holmes. Their camraderie was great, I could see them being best buddies. I also thought it was funny that no matter what Watson told himself about not getting involved in the case that he just couldn't keep away because he knew that hanging out with Holmes would be a great time. I also loved the storyline and plot, it was fast paced and very intriguing-I didn't have it figured out before the end. They left the ending open for a sequel, so look for that in a year or two. If all of this didn't convince you to go see it...Hello, it has Jude Law!! Are you alive?...yes so go see it. Very good job.
